I will agree that the quality of these images is excellent.
Obviously there will be cases where a fox is not bitten first on the back of the neck, but these photos make it clear that this fox WAS killed pretty quickly and pretty effectively despite what your correspondent Paul Day says above. The question of inhumanity has to be considered in the round. What alternative means of control are available? The death of this fox, while graphically portrayed on Dan's photos, was clearly a whole lot quicker and more humane than, say, a fox that is shot and wounded or snared or poisoned or killed in many of the various ways that we humans exercise control over wild animals. I HAVE seen foxes killed by hounds when one hound catches a fox that is running away, and that death appeared to me to be very speedy indeed, exactly in the manner Paul ascribes to us foxhunters, but no-one says that desirable method happens in 100% of cases, just as no-one can shoot to kill 100% of the time.
Compared to these alternative methods, and as shown in the photos, the death arising from hunting as depicted shows a remarkably quick and effective means of killing, leaving no chance of wounding and later suffering.

Excellent images, really captures first hand what happens to the fox after the chase... it is mauled to death over a period of time which is barbaric needless to say. The "sport" can easily come under the same catagory as dog fighting, anybody who wants to take part in this activity is blood thirsty and sadistic, speaking as someone from the country not the city!

i have always known fox-hunting, stag, mink, and any type of hunting with hounds is barbaric and cruel. i love horse riding and the thrill of ridin across country but i go to fun ride and cross-country events instead.
this is a sick and needless act of deliberate vicious attack against foxes. they are very rarely killed immediately and are usually bitten loads of times by many dogs before being ripped apart ALIVE! this is excrutiatingly painful, its hideous and anyone who supports this is a twisted and ignorant person.
the whole country needs to wise up and see this for the truth and accuracy it is, your images can show that perfectly. there is no excuse and there is no justifiable reason why there should be any form of hunting (especially with dogs) in the UK or anywhere else in the world.

well done for taking the images, they show the fear, pain and desperation in the poor fox. they are the haunting eyes which i hope everyone sees and remembers.

clearly though this is breaking the law and you should be reporting such things - after all if you had caught a thief breaking into someone's house you wouldn't ignore it would you?

Your photographs are amazing and very dramatic. I personally hope they can be used to help stop this barbaric sport. I witnessed 3 foxhounds being killed on a dual-carriageway after huntsmen deliberately didn't sound the horn to call their hounds off the fox. The children and old people in those vehicles were severaly traumatised. All in the name of 'sport'.

Such excellent photography Dan and I congratulate you on that. If there's one shot that particularly caught my attention, it is the fourth one down. Being, like yourself 'open minded' on this highly emotive issue I noted that this particular photograph totally demolishes the foxhunters claims that the fox is always killed instantly with a 'nip to the back of the neck'.

A fox against a dog one on one is fair play.
Fifty to one IS downright cruel.
